Becoming God’s Voice for Breakthrough

When we look around us, we hear so many voices. There are so many voices we can listen to every day. There are many words we can speak every day, both good and positive or negative and evil. God’s voice can appear small to us when mixed with all the satanic and evil voices all around us. There are false voices in the media, in the school system, in talk show hosts, and even in the church. We must be able to discern truth from error and the true from the false every day. In the end times we must learn to drown out the other voices and know God’s voice and speak it. Today we will continue with the theme of declarative prayer because it is so critical in the end times.

We had a car but it wouldn’t start. Doesn’t that sound like a familiar situation to many of us? My husband checked the battery to make sure there was power there. Yes, there was plenty! He then checked the starter and replaced it with a new one but when he turned the key, no power was getting to the starter. He examined the cables. He discovered that the negative cable was not grounded to the frame. It reminds me of many of us. Just as the car had no power to start when the cable wasn’t attached right, we can have lots of good things in our Christian life but if we are not grounded in the Word of God and speaking it out, the power of God can’t flow freely through our lives.

The battery of our life needs the Word of God to empower us to be and do all that God intends.

As His representatives on earth, we must learn to be His voice and speak clearly with His authority. We have seen the power of declarative prayer. But do we really know how powerful God’s voice is? Do we realize that we can become God’s voice for breakthrough?

God’s Mouthpiece

We are the voice of the Lord on the earth as we positively declare his will through our prayers. God many times is waiting for something to be done on earth, but He needs someone to pray his will. We become God’s voice on the earth for breakthrough by praying His will as we listen and obey. He wants us to be His mouthpiece on the earth. We can accomplish great things as His mouthpiece. Heaven responds to our prayers - God listens and acts on our behalf - Good things happen in the spirit realm when we learn the secret of positive confession.

The atmosphere changes - We change - Our life changes.

Think of what Jeremiah accomplished after he became God’s mouthpiece! He was called to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant (Jeremiah 1:9-10). That’s a powerful calling. Through our prayers we can do the same. We need the Lord to touch our lips and put His Words in our mouth! So often we can have negative words flowing from our mouths rather than positive words that confess God’s truth. But God’s Spirit wants to flow through us as rivers of living water (John 7:38). We must believe this, and as the days darken, we must learn to be His voice and speak His truth!

If ever there was a need for being God’s voice on earth, it is now. God’s voice is powerful and accomplishes great things. Let’s look at some Scriptures to put into perspective how mighty our God is. Psalm 29:3-9 says:

“The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord thunders over the mighty waters. The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is majestic. The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars; the Lord breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon. He makes Lebanon skip like a calf, Sirion like a young wild ox. The voice of the Lord strikes with flashes of lightning. The voice of the Lord shakes the desert; the Lord shakes the Desert of Kadesh. The voice of the Lord twists the oaks and strips the forests bare. And in his temple all cry, "Glory!

One of the things that the voice of the Lord does in these verses is to break (shabar). This means “to burst, to break into pieces (like a wild bear); to destroy, to perish (such as kingdoms, a city, or a people); to cause to break forth, to open (the womb)”. The broken places need repairing. Nations are in turmoil, evil is rampant, people are discouraged and frightened. We can stand in the gap and bring healing to the earth as we are God’s voice of hope and life. We can help destroy the works of evil and rebuild, repair, and restore through our prayers. Kingdom people know how to pray in His Kingdom. We read in Isaiah 58:12:

“Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins and will raise up the age-old foundations; you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls, Restorer of Streets with Dwellings.”

Positive Confession

When we pray with positive confession, we pray with expectancy and faith. It’s easy to be negative when you are going through a difficult time in your life. I know that I am tempted to complain during those times. It is so easy to talk about the problems. During testing times like this, we must especially watch our speech. As we go against our feelings and positively confess God’s truth and praise His name, our hearts change. Our mindset changes and confusion, discouragement, and anxiety flee.

But we first must trust God and His character. We must trust His Word and not our feelings. He will carry us through. Faith is expecting what I pray will happen. We do not just believe God can do something, but that he will do something. Positive confession is bold and confident in it’s praying. Once we know Gods heart, we boldly pray it and then we walk in faith that it will be so, even when the answer is not there yet and even when difficulties are all around us.

Positive confession is confidence in God and acting on that confidence. We must pray with confidence that God will answer our prayers according to His wisdom and goodness. We must trust that He knows what is best for us. Proverbs 3:5 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” It’s so easy for us to lean on our own understanding instead of boldly leaning on God and His Word. Faith acts on God’s Word, His truth. Look at the example of Abraham in Heb. 11:8, “By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.” Abraham went by faith. His life was a positive confession of God’s promise.

In declarative prayer that positively confesses God’s truth, we expect God to answer us. We pray with assurance when we know we are asking in His will. When we have the assurance that a promise is from God’s Word for us, we can pray it confidently and claim it authoritatively. We don’t just believe but we say exactly what we believe.

• We hold firmly to the faith we profess - “Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess” (Hebrews 4:14).

• We confess with confidence - “So we say with confidence, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?’” (Hebrews 13:6)

• We confess with our mouth - “For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved” (Romans 10:10).

For our faith to be effective, we must positively confess it. It will never be mine, until I say so. We may have to pray many times. Elijah had to pray 7 times for rain. Jesus had to pray 3 times in the Garden of Gethsemane. We are encouraged to keep on asking and keep on seeking in Matthew 7:7. We have to keep on until we have the assurance from God and then we begin giving thanks.

What are you facing in your life today where you need to practice positive confession of God’s truth? Are you standing upon His promises and practicing declarative prayer? Are you leaning upon your own understanding or are you boldly leaning upon God’s Word? Are you God’s mouthpiece in a world that desperately needs to hear His voice?

Let’s pray with an attitude of expectant faith. Let’s pray that we will be God’s mouthpiece on earth today in our prayers and actions.

Agreement Brings Breakthrough

Agreement in prayer brings breakthrough. God’s heart is that we have agreement and unity in our prayers. The key to power in praying together is a single focus. We go to a powerful prayer meeting on Wednesdays. The reason it is so powerful is because we are focused on one thing - praying for America. The entire hour is spent in praying everything about our country. We don’t suddenly launch out into something else but we all come with a determined mindset to pray for one thing - our nation.

It’s easy to be divided into a million areas when we pray. The needs are so great. But the most powerful prayer meetings are often when everyone is in agreement about one thing at a time. We should learn to pray through a request until God moves us on to something else. We are one body with one voice seeking God together.

Agreement in prayer is not a new thing. It is Biblical! In Acts 1:14 we read “they all joined together constantly in prayer” and in Acts 4:14, “they raised their voices together in prayer”. Together is a key that opens the door to the power of God. The King James Bible in Acts 2:1 says “with one accord”. What were the results of such unity in prayer? The filling of the Holy Spirit with boldness and Peter’s miraculous release from prison!

To pray in agreement is to dream the dreams of God together.

I don’t know how you feel, but I want to dream the dreams of God together with other like-minded people. It is encouraging when we don’t have to carry a heavy burden alone. God has great plans and His Kingdom is coming to earth. Don’t you want to pray His dreams with others regarding His Kingdom? Don’t you want to agree with others in alignment with His will? Praying in agreement is harmonizing together like a symphony. When an orchestra is tuning up, everything can sound like a lot of noise because every instrument is doing it’s own thing. But when the conductor raises his baton, the instruments come together in harmony. That’s how prayer should be when Jesus is the conductor of the meeting.

On Wednesdays I go to a prayer meeting from 6:30 - 7:30 AM with over 100 people praying together, mainly intercessors. It’s great because there is a beautiful harmony. Recently one person started a spontaneous song and two others continued the song with new verses in perfect harmony. Every week a prayer theme is continued through the entire hour with one intercessor adding to the prayers of another. There’s direction as everyone prays with one heart and mind under the direction of Jesus, the conductor. This brings encouragement, builds faith, and helps everyone to concentrate. We are all keenly aware of what the Holy Spirit is doing. The harmony keeps us all awake early in the morning! We are agreeing in prayer. We read in Matthew 18:19 in the Amplified Bible:

“Again I tell you, if two of you on earth agree (harmonize together, make a symphony together) about whatever (anything and everything) they may ask, it will come to pass and be done for them by My Father in heaven.”


How to Agree in Prayer

Praying with one another in agreement helps us to bear one another’s burdens. It’s encourages faith and helps us avoid temptation. Here are some ways to help you to pray in one accord with others:

• Pray with a clean heart - You must be in harmony. Make sure there is no unconfessed sin or unforgiveness. “If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened” (Psalm 66:18). Also see John 9:31.

• Pray with the Holy Spirit’s direction - When you start praying, invite the Holy Spirit to come and direct you in prayer. Look to Him for His guidance, direction, and focus.
  

• Pray in agreement with honesty, humility, and love - “Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble” (1 Pet. 3:8).

• Pray God’s will according to Scripture - “This is the assurance we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us” (1 John 5:14). Also see James 4:3 and John 15:7.

• Pray one subject at a time - You may want to pray back and forth on one topic until you are finished. Remember to stay focused until you are finished with that topic before moving on.
  

• Pray brief, to-the-point prayers - Long prayers can cause the group to lose focus. You want everyone to be able to participate.
  

• Pray with faith and confidence - Believe together that God hears and will answer your prayers. God can do anything. “If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer" (Matthew 21:22). Also see Hebrews 11:6 and Genesis 18:14.

• Pray with perseverance and urgency - Don’t give up. “Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up” (Luke 18:1). Also see Matthew 15:21-28.

Why is it so hard to start citywide prayer meetings and Houses of Prayer? The answer is simple. Satan knows the power of agreement in prayer. He knows that if the churches came together in united prayer, the city could be reached for Christ. Therefore he fights it in every way he can. He loves disunity, and this is one of his greatest tricks. He always wants to bring division, discord, and broken relationships.

But when there is unity in prayer, there is a marvelous outcome. Steve Meeks shares about how praying together in agreement affected his church and city. He says:

“Praying together has been like igniting a spiritual boiler room within our church. The temperature of our faith has risen. Answered prayers are an ongoing experience. We have seen the climate of our unity radically changed. We have entered a stream of God’s activity along with a host of other churches and Christians and pastors’ groups across our city. There is a feeling of oneness among the churches, and practical strategies are developing for the church in Houston to stand ‘firm in one spirit, contending as one man fort the faith of the gospel’ (Philippians 1:27).”

Sometimes one prayer from another perspective can change everything. Occasionally my husband and I go to a prayer meeting for Turkey. In one hour we pray a multitude of prayers for that one nation. It’s amazing the variety of prayers there can be prayed for one country. The prayers are direct, to-the-point, and are led by the Holy Spirit. On my own I could never pray from that many perspectives about one nation, but together there is united wisdom and power. This reminds me of two stories:

Perhaps you have heard about the old farmer who drank his first bottle of soda pop while he was heading for the big city on a speeding train. After he took his first sip, the train roared into a dark tunnel. He cried out to his wife, “Don’t drink that soda pop, Martie, it will make you blind as a bat!” The old man had evaluated the situation from his own perspective. He wasn’t really blind. He was in a tunnel and didn’t even know it. We can also have tunnel vision in our prayers. We need one another’s wisdom and perspective.

There was an elderly Midwest couple that apologized to the TV repairman when he came to the door of their home. With red faces they informed him that their TV had no problems at all. “We made a mistake,” they told him. “We put on each others eyeglasses.” As Christians, we see the world through our own eyes. We think we see with 20/20 vision but that’s not true. We need one another to see and pray from God’s full perspective.

We need one another to pray with the power of God. Snowflakes are very frail all alone, but if enough of them get together they can cause a traffic jam!

The Holy Spirit is inviting us to enter into His heart for breakthrough unity. We are living in exciting days. Agreement brings breakthrough. It’s Scriptural and God promises to be present. We read in Matthew 18:20, “For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them.” God answers united prayer. Agreement is the untapped power of believers. Perhaps this is the day we should take hold of God’s untapped formula for breakthrough in prayer. Let’s learn the secret of agreement!
